Everything I can think of crammed into one post.

The last few weeks have been crazy busy. We have enjoyed 12-14 hour days, eating too many frozen burritos, and falling asleep on the couch around 9:30 pm.
Matt has been waking up around 5 am (some days 4 am) to go to work and then straight to school until 8 or 9 pm depending on the day and the amount of homework.
Our English teacher has so graciously given us plenty of work to keep us from having real lives. We had a HUGE paper due this week that really stressed both of us out. Luckily we finished the paper with only a few angry thoughts directed towards school and our lovely English teacher. And we have 3 even bigger papers due in the coming weeks to look forward to. Hooray. Anyway enough complaining.

We have enjoyed some really relaxing weekends together to keep us sane. Last Friday we had a Halloween themed date. I wanted to make it a surprise for Matt because I love surprises. I planned a Halloween dinner. We had potato ghosts, and dead fingers for dinner with cat pee (apple cider) to drink and caramel apples for dessert.

After dinner we went on a spooooooooky Halloween cruise. We got to the cruise destination (Provo river) a little early and we didn't want to go on the cruise till it was dark so we decided to take a walk down a nearby path. Matt, being the great story teller that he is, wanted to tell scary stories. Thinking quick on his feet he begins to tell a story about a horse named "No hoof". This horse was very self conscious about his no hoof so he would "neigh" at anyone who would judge him because he didn't have a hoof. He would "neigh" so loud that it would kill them. The story ended up being more comical than scary.

After the scary story telling we went on our exciting Halloween cruise! The river was so spooooky with jack o lanterns along the bank of the river. It was a lot of fun. After the cruise we intended to finish the night with a scary movie. After no luck at red box, we decided to try and find a scary movie on TV. We ended up falling asleep on the couch watching "Baby Mama".

On an unrelated, but equally scary, note. We have been having issues with spiders and flies terrorizing our bedroom at night. For the past week we have had a few annoying flies and spiders creeping around in our bedroom right before we go to bed. The flies are just annoying. They don't really bother me to much, but they drive Matt crazy. He usually ends up swatting a pillow around the room until he is either A) too exhausted. B) Sure he killed the fly. C) or can't find the fly anymore and just assumed it died. The spiders are a completely different story. I am not too fond of them and neither is Matt. Every time we encounter a spider it is a battle of who will be brave enough to smash it. And to make the spider fears worse we thought it would be fun to watch arachnophobia the other night. It was on TV and we had nothing else to watch.

We are looking forward to Halloween and all the fun stuff involved!

The most pointless blog you will ever read.

My dear friends, I have stumbled upon the most pointless blog you will spend your time reading. It's called Mullets and Steps and it is run by the one and only Scott Carl Johansen. His blog post consist of drawings a kindergartener would be embarrassed to show, and stories about his real life. The blog is so stupid that its super funny. I have spent way too much time reading his stories about the alphabet and jaw breakers. Go over there and check it out, because its funny and stupid and may offend you and you will go away wishing you had the last hour of your life back.

9 months and counting...

We've been married for 9 months now and I am still loving it! I love being married to my best friend! I was thinking this morning about the things I have learned about Matt in the 9 months we have been married. Here are a few things I have learned.

1. He looks like an angel when he sleeps. But he also tends to drool a lot. He usually wakes up super embarrassed that he drooled all over the pillow, the sheets and my shoulder.

2. He is just like his father. I find myself saying "you are just like your dad".

3. He is a raccoon whisperer.

4. He loves sea lions. It brings out the kid in him.

5. He loves his beard more than he loves most people.

6. He eats more treats and junk food than a kindergarten class on Halloween. And still manages to lose weight.

7. He is afraid of donkeys.

8. He is an artist.

I am so happy I married Matt, he makes life so much fun.

My latest obsession

My new latest obsession is picnik.com. It is basically the best thing since The Bachelor/Bachelorette and the Snuggie. I bet it could even beat a reality dating show with people wearing snuggies. Anyways.... picnik is a free photo editing program online. It makes your photos look like you have photography skills. I had heard a lot about picnik, but decided to give it a try a few days ago... and I am hooked! Let me just show you a few examples!

Here is the before picture. Notice Matt's arm in the picture. Even with out photo editing, we still look fantastic!

The after picture. Notice Matt's arm got cropped out. My teeth got magically whiter.

I think everyone should head on over to picnik.com and give it a try!

The Crafty Kirks

Thanks to Matt he has dubbed us the "Crafty Kirks". We are preparing to move to our new humble abode in north Orem, and we wanted to move into our new place in style. Here is just a little preview of what the "crafty Kirk's" have been working on.

Here is one of my first crafty crafts. I wanted some pillows to spice up our home.

Peter and Wendi gave us some old chairs to use in our kitchen. They were quite ugly, so they were happy to give them away. We had been using card table chairs, so we much appreciated the ugly chairs. This is the before chair.

After chairs.

We forgot to get a before picture of our coffee table, but here is the after young and hip coffee table. We are excited to have many nights of coffee drinking on this young guy.

We decided that our 30 year old lamp needed an update as well. I painted the base black and re-did the lamp shade.

These are some decorative twine balls. They are great to just look at.

Disclaimer: We are not starting a preschool in our new apartment, and we are not pregnant. When we envisioned this craft, it wasn't so child like. The end product looked like we would be hosting a play group for a bunch of 5 year olds. Maybe Matt should pursue a career in teaching preschool.

This is my Ikea clock from the most recent girls craft night. I really like how the mod podge fabric and flowers turned out.

We have really enjoyed doing crafts together and making things look nice for our new apartment. I am sure we will keep the craftin' up!

Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall

Summer is coming to an end and the chilly fall weather is right around the corner. I just wanted to post some pictures of our highlights this summer.

Here is the Johansen Clan minus Jeff. For Memorial day we went up Provo canyon and had a BBQ lunch.
This is Matt's hard core cut. He loved to show it off and get sympathy.

This is from our hike up Stewart Falls. It was a nice hike, the only down side.. we forgot aspirin and we both got headaches.

We are poor and we are camping.. so we eat hot dogs for dinner. YUMMY!

This is from the Manti Pageant. We had to fight for some blanket space.

The living planet aquarium was way fun! Not as cool
as the seals in Sea World though.

Matt and Melly at Utah Lake on the 4th of July.
They are the best of friends.

Girls Craft Night!!

Camping up Payson Canyon.

The Kirk Family vacation to Yellow Stone! We had a blast! This is at Yellowstone falls.

We went to Matt's friend Justin's wedding at the Logan temple. It was our first time every going there, and it was soo beautiful!

Brittney's birthday surprise! We surprised her with dinner, and Poppa K made her a pic nic table!

Johansen Family Camp out! We had so much fun at Elevator Lake!

Hello Blogging World!

After much peer pressure from Jen, I have decided to create a blog about the life of Matt and I. We are very exciting and entertaining people, so you will never be bored! Unless you find the mundane things of life unexciting like doing laundry, washing dishes, cleaning the house and going to work. Then you may possibly get bored by our blog.
Anyway, here are the happenings of our life right now.

We are MOVING! Hooray! We found a nice basement apartment in north Orem that will be perfect for us. It is almost double the size of our apartment now, it has 2 bedrooms, big sized living room, HUGE walk in closet in the master bedroom. And we are so excited about it! We won't be moving until October 1st, so that will give us plenty of time to pack and get things in order. Plus we need to buy a washer and dryer.

After almost a year and a half, I am returning to school. Hooray? Matt and I are both taking 2 classes. We are taking an English class together and he is taking an interpersonal communication class and I am taking a marriage class, and hopefully we will be taking institute together as well. We aren't exactly super excited to be attending school, but we know that spending our savings to go to school to earn a degree we will never use is the right thing to do. ha ha. I guess it's just hard to go to school since we aren't sure what we want to do for a career.

Also my dear Twinsistafriend Callie headed off to Ukraine yesterday!
In case anyone is wondering where Ukraine is, I posted a handy little map. She will be teaching English to the Ukrainian kids until the middle of December. She will come back a foot taller, a year wiser, and learned to love Santa Buddies. She will be missed!

Also RIP tent. It was a good tent, it lasted us most of the summer. The tent will surely be missed, and maybe someday he will find his way back home. Here is the tent on our first camping adventure in the Kirk's back yard.

Here is the tent enjoying some time alone up Provo Canyon while Matt hacks away with his machete.

Here is the tent up Payson Canyon enjoying some quality time with the car.
